A Bullet Poem
From time to time I refer to a "Bullet Poem". So what is a bullet poem?
From The Writer's Perspective
There is a tendency of the establishment to dismiss "confessional poetry" which is something that deeply irritates me. Any art is forth most about expression and it should be free from the constraints of those who wish to put it into a box.
A bullet poem is something which has no regard for anything apart from what drives it to be written. The paper is a gun and the poem a bullet.
It is written because it needs to be written. It needs to be fired from yourself and released. It is the expression of something which when left to ponder on, to be preoccupied with, could well destroy you over time.
A bullet poem is often raw, written from the heart and often left never to be redrafted for it has served it's purpose. Expression.
From The Readers Perspective
A successful bullet poem transposes its emotion to the reader. There is an uncompromising honesty within the work, where nothing is obscured or covered by the usual techniques. It is readily accessible and like being hit with a bullet, the poem can be hard hitting and have an impact on the reader.
A bullet poem may or may not be confessional since it has no rules only that of expression, it can be anything which is needed to be written.
What a bullet poem does is connect the writer and reader on a level of humanity.
