The Poet's Surgery

Last night while doing something else the idea of a blank page strung to mind or indeed a screen...

It takes a certain mindset to write and it is the medical equivalent of washing up and putting on a gown in readiness for surgery.

Any art is a patient who is oblivious to time and remains asleep until someone finds it.

The Clinical Room

Eight scalpels on two dishes
press twenty-nine iodine faces.

Nicks, cuts and tucks
seven uniform stitches stand in line

on a patient who still slumbers
remains ignorant of time.
